What it takes to work on a Gilk job, and what you can expect from us.
Gilk builds with a small bench of trades it has known for years, and adds to it carefully. If you would like to be on the list, here is the paperwork, in the order we need it. Send it to office@gilk.com with the subject “Trade partner”.
Pre-qualification
Four steps, and none of them are a mystery.
- 1. Introduce your company
One email to office@gilk.com, subject “Trade partner”: the trades you perform, your license numbers, years in business, typical crew size and service area, and three recent projects with a general contractor we can call. - 2. Send the documents
The certificate of insurance, W-9, license and safety program listed below. Nothing is awarded until they are on file, and nothing is paid until they are current. - 3. Bid, award, agreement
Bids are priced against the actual drawings during pre-construction. An award is made in writing and comes with our subcontract agreement; work starts after it is signed and the certificate is in hand. - 4. Keep it current
We track certificate expiry dates and will ask before a policy lapses. A lapsed certificate holds the next payment until it is renewed.
Insurance minimums
What the certificate has to show.
- General liability$1,000,000 per occurrence, $3,000,000 aggregate. Gilk named as additional insured, on a primary and non-contributory basis, with a waiver of subrogation.
- Workers’ compensationStatutory Florida coverage with employer’s liability of $500,000. A current Florida exemption certificate is accepted only for the exempt officers named on it; everyone else on site must be covered.
- CarrierRated A-VII or better by A.M. Best.
- Certificate holderThe Gilk entity named in your subcontract agreement, 3715 E 7th Ave, Tampa, FL 33605. We confirm the exact legal name with every award.
Documents required
Before the first day on site, and with every draw.
- Certificate of insurance
Meeting the minimums above, naming Gilk as certificate holder and additional insured, renewed before it expires. - W-9
In the same legal name as your license and your insurance, so payments and year-end forms match. - License
State or county, wherever your trade requires one, current and in the same name as the W-9. - Written safety program
Your company’s own, with the name of the person responsible for it on our jobs. - Lien waiver with every draw
A conditional waiver with each pay application and an unconditional waiver when the payment clears, from you and, on request, from your suppliers. If you serve a Notice to Owner, copy Gilk the same day.

What you can expect from us.
A written scope
Bids are priced against finished drawings, awards are made in writing, and the subcontract agreement says what is in and what is out before anyone mobilizes.
One Gilk lead per job
One person schedules you, answers questions and signs off your work. Daily logs and photos keep the sequence visible, so you are not guessing when the job is ready for you.
An open book that pays on time
Your invoice goes into the owner’s monthly draw package with every other invoice on the job. When the draw funds, you are paid and lien waivers are exchanged at the same time. No surprises on either side.
